Applications to try out for the 2019 U.S. Women’s National U19 team are now available. The U19 team, led by head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, will ultimately represent the United States in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s U19 World Championship in Peterborough, Canada from Aug. 1-10, 2019.
Per FIL rules, the age qualifications for the U19 team are as follows: the player must be at least 15 years old as of the day prior to the start of the event (July 31, 2019), and must be no older than 18 years of age as of August 31 in the year preceding the event (August 31, 2018).
Applications are due no later than May 18 and will be evaluated by a Player Identification Committee that includes US Lacrosse Women’s High Performance Committee Chair Anne Phillips, Amonte Hiller, U19 assistant coaches Ann Elliott, Brooke Matthews, Angela McMahon, U19 team assistant manager Meredith Frank McGinnis, U.S. senior team head coach Jenny Levy and eight regional recruiting coordinators.
The committee will select players to invite to tryouts by June 15, and the tryouts will be held at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., from Aug. 10-12, 2018.
A Player Selection Committee consisting of Phillips, the current U19 team staff, two past U.S. U19 team coaches and eight regional evaluators from the high school and club ranks will work together to select the training team following the tryouts.
The United States has medaled at each of the previous six FIL Women’s U19 World Championships, capturing gold in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011 and silver in 1995 and 2015.
