Top-ranked McDonogh School (MD) shoots for its fourth straight undefeated season today when it plays St. Paul’s School for Girls in the finals of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) A Conference championship at Notre Dame Prep at 4 p.m.

McDonogh (21-0), which has won 90 straight games, advanced to the title game Thursday with a 17-10 win over Maryvale Prep. No. 13 St. Paul’s (13-4), defeated Bryn Mawr, 12-9. The two teams were supposed to play on Saturday, but lightning suspended play before it began.

McDonogh is aiming for its fifth straight IAAM crown.

NorCal playoffs begin

Two teams listed as under Consideration in this week’s rankings are the top seeds in the North Coast Section Division I tournament.

Top-seeded Amador Valley (18-1) hosts 16th-seeded Northgate (12-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. while second-seeded Carondelet (17-3) meets No. 15 seed Dublin (7-8) on Wednesday at Diablo Vista Middle School 5:30 p.m.

The championship game is slated for May 24 or May 25. Carondelet downed Amador Valley in last year’s final, 21-12. This year Amador Valley won the regular-season matchup, 10-9.

St. John’s claims Texas Division I state title

Top-seeded St. John’s defeated Ursuline Academy, 15-5, Sunday at North Park in Southlake, Texas, to claim the Division I state championship.

The Mavericks, who won their 15th straight game, finished 21-2 after falling in last year’s state final to Hockaday, 19-18.
