HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Justin Guterding scored four goals and had three assists, helping Garden City dominate Long Beach, 13-3, tonight in the Nassau County Class B Semifinals at Hofstra University.

The victory sends the defending state champs into the Nassau County Finals next Tuesday at Hofstra University vs. the North Shore-Manhasset winner.
Cody George had three goals, Kieran Byrnes had two goals and Jack Worstell had two assists for Garden City (15-3), which broke open a 2-2 game and led, 6-2 at halftime before coasting to the win.

“The guys did a great job,” said Garden City head coach Steve Finnell, whose team is ranked No. 19 by TopLaxRecruits.com. “We had good senior leadership today; we have 17 seniors and they wanted to get back to the County final.
“After the first quarter we settled down and had a great second quarter. So far this season this is the best we gave played. You want to play your best in May; we are excited about that.”
Guterding helped spark Garden City to 6-0 run that spanned the second and third quarter, giving them a commanding 8-2 lead. The Trojans’ defense, led by Ed Blatz and goalie Dan Dolan (five saves), held down the dangerous James Forkin (one goal).
“This was a great team effort,” said senior Guterding. “We did awesome today. This was a great way to go into the County Finals.
“We got pumped up after the first quarter. We knew we had to come out strong and we did. Hofstra is our second home so we are really confident and we just keep getting better.”
Chris Parler and Josh Ayzenberg also scored for Long Beach.
“We didn’t play so well today,” said Long Beach head coach Jim Kaspar. “In the first quarter we thought we had a shot because we were in it for a while and then we just fell apart.”
