Freshman J.D. Spielman scored with 12 seconds left to play Saturday, lifting Eden Prairie to a 9-8 victory over Eastview in the Minnesota state boys’ championship game at Chanhassen High School.

The victory gave the Eagles their first state title after four previous tries in the finals. It also capped an 18-0 season as they avenged a 10-4 loss to Eastview in last year’s title game.

Nick Bentz had the assist on the game-winner. Spielman, Sean Patterson, Charlie Venable and Brooks Armitage each scored twice for Eden Prairie. Max Fahey posted nine saves.

Ryan McNamara scored three goals to lead Eastview (14-4).

Lydia Sutton had four goals and an assist and Jordan Chancellor added four goals as the Bears (16-3) won their fourth straight state championship at Chanhassen.

Hannah Koloski and Emmie Madsen each had three goals for Lakeville North (14-5), which had reached the championship game by stunning Eden Prairie, 13-12, in overtime in the semifinals.
