Mt. Sinai celebrates the Long Island Class C championship

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Danielle Dellarocca, Sydney Pirreca and Shayna Pirreca each tallied three goals to boost the Mt. Sinai girls’ lacrosse team to a 12-7 victory over North Shore Sunday for the Class C Long Island Championship at Adelphi University.

Mt. Sinai (18-0), ranked No. 6 by TopLaxRecruits.com, will play Section 5 champion Honeoye-Falls Lima in the state semifinals Friday at Cortland State at 2:30 p.m.

“This feels awesome,” said DellaRocca. “We should have taken off from the beginning, but they played us well and after halftime we got intense and took off. Nothing can stop us. We are out to get the championship and if we keep playing this intense, we can do it.”

North Shore (9-9) led, 3-1, early in the game, but Sydney Pirrecca sparked a 4-0 run to put the Mustangs up 5-3. Carly Comintino (four goals) later drew the Vikings within 6-5, but Sydney Pirreca’s goal with 5:08 left in the first half sparked a 6-0 run that put the game out of reach.

“This feels great,” said Mount Sinai head coach Al Bertolone. “This was our goal, to get upstate. I give them (the Vikings) a lot of credit.

“They were playing us tough and they were feisty. I feel good going forward as long as I have these kids playing for me, they are warriors under pressure.”

Meg Brennan scored two goals and Tess Korten had one goal and one assist for North Shore.

“It was a hard fought game,” said North Shore head coach Jeff Butt. “I thought we played our hearts out. They are a great team and I wish them all the best upstate.”
