GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Natalie Stefan scored four goals to propel the Manhasset girls’ lacrosse team to an 11-7 victory of Eastport-South Manor Sunday in the Class B Long Island Championship game at Adelphi University.

Manhasset (16-3), ranked No. 11 by TopLaxrecruits.com, will face Section 5 champion Brighton (17-3) in the state semifinals Friday at Cortland State at noon.

“This feels unreal, it kind of feels like a dream,” said Stefan. “We give it 100 percent in practice, we give it 100 percent on the field and it has paid off. I think going forward, if we keep doing what we are doing there is no team we can’t beat.”

Manhasset scored two goals late in the first half to seize a 4-3 lead and later Stefan scored her fourth goal at the 20:44 mark to make it 6-4. Kellen D’Alleva made it 7-4 and Julia Glynn’s second tally gave the Indians their largest lead, 10-6, with 2:51 left in the game.

Glynn finished with three goals and one assist and Emily Koufakis and Sarah Barcia each added one goal and one assist for Manhasset. Erin Coleman made six saves in goal.

“This feels great; the kids definitely worked for hard for this,” said Manhasset head coach Danielle Gallagher. “We rode a little bit of a rollercoaster today.

“We went with our zone (defense), which has worked against a lot of really good teams this year. But it didn’t work against them. They were doing a great job at keeping it coming at us hard so we changed things up, adjusted and that ended up working out for us.

“I know it’s not going to be easy but I think the games we played throughout the season have prepared us for every tough opponent we are going to face.”

Dakota Mason led the Sharks (15-5) with three goals and Marissa Gurello and Kaeli Huff both scored one goal and had one assist each.

“We fought hard,” said Eastport-South Manor coach Becky Thorn. “My defense is one of the top defenses in Suffolk County and they came out here with heart, but Manhasset crushed us on attack today.”
