Wednesday’s boys’, girls’ results: Yorktown (NY) wins opener; No. 7 Gilman (MD) stunned by Hereford (MD)

Junior Connor Vercruysse scored four goals as No. 20 Yorktown opened its boys’ lacrosse season by dealing Columbine (CO) its first loss of the year, 8-5, at West Point, N.Y.

Yorktown led 4-1 after one period and 5-2 at halftime and was never threatened.

Jack Stebbins (Colgate) had two goals for Columbine (4-1) and Evan Hartman was a standout in goal.

Boys’ Latin 14, Glenelg 7

T Moyer, Michael Lynch and Ben Levin tallied three goals each and Casey Rees had two while Shack Stanwick had a goal and three assists to help the No. 1 Lakers remain perfect (7-0).

Hereford (MD) 7, Gilnan (MD) 6

The five-time Class 2A-3A state champion Bulls (1-1) seized a 7-2 lead and held off a late challenge for the upset win over the No. 7 Greyhounds (3-1). Conor Cunningham (Hofstra) was a standout with 17 saves while Jack Adams, Jason Ashwood and Joe Seider each had two goals..

Smithtown West (NY) 10, Farmingdale (NY) 3

Ryan Keenan had three goals and four assists to lead No. 10 Smithtown West (3-0)

Lawrenceville School (NJ) 9, Germantown Academy (PA) 3

Grayson Helm had two goals and an assist and Dylan Key scored twice for Lawrenceville (2-0) in the victory.

Ian Davies made 20 saves in goal in a standout effort for GA.

Girls

St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 15, Amador Valley (VA) 2

The No. 2-ranked Saints improved to 5-0 by dealing the Dons (5-1) their first defeat. SSSA plays at Carondelet (CA) today.

Haverford High (PA) 11, Norfolk Academy (NC) 10

Hannah Breslin scored the game-winner on an 8-meter off a key draw control by Tess Horan in the Fords’ victory over host Norfolk.

Olivia Martin had the game-tying goal and led the Fords (2-1) with three goals and an assist. Horan also had a key groundball that helped the Fords salt the game in the final minutes.

Norfolk fell to 6-2.

Concord (DE) 10, Ailexis I. DuPont (DE) 9

Heather Estle had five goals and Quinh Troung and Madeline Davis each had two for the Lady Raiders in their victory. Elizabeth Shields recorded five goals for A.I. DuPont
