Oyster Bay High School (NY) 2015 defender Nicki Stanco has made a commitment to play Division II lacrosse at Adelphi University.
Nicki Stanco ledger:
High School: Oyster Bay High School, NY
Graduation Year: 2015
Position: Defense
College Choice: Adelphi University
Club Affiliation: Long Island Wave
Lacrosse Honors: Long Island Wave player since the 7th grade, summer tournaments, The Capital Cup in Virginia,The Championship Cup in Virginia
What will you major in/study? Physical Therapy
Why did you choose Adelphi? “After looking at a number of universities, I decided I wanted to study Physical Therapy along with playing competitive lacrosse, close enough so that my mother can come watch me.
“I was also introduced to Adelphi through my travel team coaches who who played for Adelphi. They always spoke about their great experiences which opened my eyes to visit the campus.
“I knew from the moment I visited the campus, it was a great fit for me. I look forward to the next chapter of my life attending Adelphi University, but will surely miss Oyster Bay High School.”
Outlook for 2015 HS season? “I have only the highest expectations for this season. Being a young and new varsity program, we accomplished so much last season making it to the Nassau County Finals. It was quite an achievement and I along with my teammates will work hard and try to get back to the County Final this Spring. It’s hard competing, coming from a small town school, but we always give it our all here at Oyster Bay.”
Thank You: “I don’t think I would be the player I am if it was not for my travel team coaches Lauren and Diana Lopez. Lauren recruited me back in the 7th grade to play for The Long Island Wave, she has taught and trained me all I know and I’m very thankful for all she has done for me. I hope I can follow in Lauren and Diana’s footsteps at Adelphi University, who have been recently added to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
“This wouldn’t be possible without my biggest fan, my mom who has stood in the rain, heat, snow, and drove me to every practice, game and tournament.
“I would also like to thank Mr. Rizzuto for starting the Oyster Bay Varsity Program and always pushing me to do my best. He’s put his time and effort into building this program and we have had great success in such a short period of time. I hope we have the opportunity to bring home a championship for him.”
Other schools considered: Quinnipiac, Umass, Rollins
