Middle Country (N.Y.) freshman attack Jamie Ortega has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of North Carolina.

Major lacrosse honors: HS Varsity Starter since 7th grade, All County 2013, Newsday Player to Watch 3/13, Syracuse Nike Cup MVP 7/13, UNC Winter Camp MVP 12/13

What will you major in/study? Physician’s Assistant

Why did you choose school? “UNC has the perfect blend of outstanding academics, amazing lacrosse and tremendous school spirit. The coaches are amazing and the players I met and spent time with were great to be around.”

Outlook for your High School team? “We hope to make a deep run into the playoffs. We know we have to pull together as a team and share the ball and continue to work on our game. We are in a tough division and we play the top D-1 teams in Suffolk County.”
