Smithtown East (N.Y.) freshman midfielder Shannon Kavanagh has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Florida.

What will you major in/study? Physician’s Assistant program

Why did you choose the school? “The school has everything I was looking for: strong academics, a beautiful campus, amazing facilities and coaches, and a Top 5 Division 1 program. I really love all the support the student-athletes get and the school was a perfect fit for me.”

HS team’s outlook for next season? “I learned a lot playing at a varsity level from the coaches and from my teammates. We played well all season but I think we could have moved the ball better and more efficiently. We came close to a playoff position but just missed it. This year we have an experienced new coach in position and a good strong team in place that will hopefully get us a spot in the playoffs.”
