Jared Steinman said his resilience may be his biggest asset on the lacrosse field.
“I think my biggest strength is my perseverance,” said the Southlake Carroll HS and South Star (TX) 2022 midfielder, who was named the MVP in the Victory Events Cowboy Cup Showcase Friday in Plano.

“A lot of crazy things have happened in my life and I continue to face challenges to this day. However I think perseverance on the field is extremely important especially when you are losing or your team is battling for the win.”
Steinman’s performance Friday should help his college search.
“My goal coming into the showcase was to simply to get noticed,” he said, “I knew if I played the way I know I could I would get looks. The whole time I was simply having fun and taking my opportunities.
“I knew there would be some great athletes and I would have to outwork every competitor. I also tried to build trust and relationships with my teammates despite the little time I got with them.
“I made sure I was putting 100% effort all the time. I did not play a perfect game by any means but I tried to play as unselfishly as possible. I am an unselfish player with a pass first mentality. Although I will take my opportunities.”
Since he is a 2022, Steinman knows he is a little late in the search for a Division I spot. But he is optimistic he’ll find his destination.
“I am looking to play either D1 or D2 lacrosse even though it might be a little late,” he said. “I am just trying to find the best college for me and my future.”
Steinman said his lacrosse level rose when his family moved from California to Texas in 2020.
“The move from California (Saugus HS, north of Los Angeles) to Texas was definitely interesting,” he said. “The level of play here in Texas was a lot better and I had to quickly adjust in order to earn a spot on my new team.
“I realized the importance of working outside of practice and making sure I make the most of my time. I feel I adjusted well and the move was definitely worth it in all aspects.”
