St. Dominic High School, CHSAA ‘A’ Inter-sectional Champions

Senior Patrick O’Brien scored with 1:14 left in the third overtime as St. Dominic (N.Y.) claimed the Catholic High School Athletic Association ‘A’ Intersectional Championship on Tuesday by defeating Archbishop Stepinac, 9-8.

The Bayhawks (14-5) tied the game on a goal by freshman Liam McAuliffe (two goals) with 6:05 left in regulation after being down, 8-5, with two minutes left in the third quarter, St. Dominic (14-4) slowly chipped away at the lead as junior Matt Defeo (two goals, one assist) scored twice with 9:05 and 8:07 left to make it 8-7.

O’Brien had two goals and three assists and Grant Galligan led with three goals and one assist. Joe Fabilli was a standout in goal with 14 saves.

Gianni Ciffone had three goals and two assists for Stepinac (16-7).
