The South Carolina girls’ lacrosse champion will be crowned Monday when Wando faces defending champion J.L. Mann Academy (5:30 p.m.) at White Knoll High School in Lexington.

The game originally was slated to be held Saturday at 11 a.m., but the threat of bad weather caused officials to move it to Monday. The game will precede the boys’ state final between Wando and Fort Mill.

Jessie Bunting netted the sudden-death game-winner in the third overtime on Thursday to lift Wando (13-1) past Bishop England, 15-14, in the Lower State title game Thursday at Jack Cantey Stadium on Daniel Island.

Amazingly, Wando had defeated Bishop England, 18-17, in another three-overtime game on March 26. The Bishops (12-2) lost only to Wando this season.

Taylor Kennington (team-high four goals) gave Bishop England a 13-12 lead in the first OT, but Bunting (three goals) tied it with just six seconds to play.

Kennington put her team ahead in the second overtime, but freshman Skylar Horner scored her seventh goal to tie it with 1:30 left.

Wando tried to put the game away with three more shots on goal before the end of the second overtime, but Bishops all-state goalkeeper Taylor Rice shut down all three. Rice tallied 15 saves and three ground balls on the night.

Karlee Stinson added three goals for Wando.Dorothy Navarro and Jordan Mitchell added three goals each for the Bishops.

J.L. Mann (16-3) advanced to the finals Tuesday with a 15-7 conquest of Fort Mill in the Upper State final as Ruthann Payne, Luci Ellison, Blakley Wilson and Ashli Woodard had two goals each to lead a balanced attack.
