Alex McGovern scored five goals Tuesday to lead host St. Paul’s School to a 12-10 win over Boys’ Latin, lifting the Crusaders to a first-place tie with McDonogh School in the final A Conference standings of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association.
St. Paul’s (13-5 overall) closed at 7-2, tied with McDonogh School, an 11-6 winner of Gilman.
Carter Flaig and Jack Pollard each added two goals for the Crusaders, who won their last four league games.
Jack Kemp had three goals to spark McDonogh to its win over Gilman, which knocked the Greyhounds out of the playoffs.
Also Tuesday, Calvert Hall (12-5, 5-4) toppled Loyola Blakefield (9-4, 6-3), 15-10, to qualify for the playoffs and grab the sixth seed. The Cardinals will play at third-seeded St. Mary’s (9-6, 6-3), a 20-9 winner of Mount St. Joseph on Friday.

“I’ve been around the league for 27 years (16 as head coach, 11 assistant coach) and it’s as wide open as ever,” said St. Paul’s coach Rick Brocato. “It’s anyone’s game!”
