Calvert Hall (MD) was a dominant force in the Sixth Annual Brine King of the Spring Face-Off Classic this weekend in the Triangle area of North Carolina.
First on Saturday night in the feature game, Calvert Hall opened its season with an 11-1 triumph over Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.), the defending North Carolina 1-2-3 A state champion and No. 1 team in the TopLaxRecruits Southern Rankings.
Jacob Kelly (freshman committed to UNC) had two goals and three assists and Timmy Kelly and Jason Brown each had two goals and two assists for the Cardinals while Jack Kinnear added two goals and an assist and Zach Green scored twice. JT Bugliosi added a goal and Ryan Powers won 12 of 13 face-offs. Joe McSorley made eight stops and John Hulsman added two saves.
Cardinal Gibbons goalie Kevin McKendry had a strong game.

Calvert Hall also toppled Cape Henry Collegiate (NC), 18-4 as Timmy Kelly had three goals and three assists and Brown, Jacob Kelly and Kevin Bartenfelter each had a pair. Bugliosi had a goal and four assists while Powers won all 10 of his face-offs.
Rainer Curran had two goals for Cape Henry Collegiate.
Also at the Classic, defending Tennessee state champion Memphis University School (3-2) dropped decisions to St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA), 10-7, Charlotte Country Day (N.C.), 10-9, on Saturday and then defeated Durham Academy (N.C.), 14-3, today. Trammel Robinson had three goals in the win and two goals in the loss to CCD while Winn Medlock had four goals and four assists in the defeats.

Also Sunday at the Face-Off Classic, Steve Hirschmann scored the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Cavaliers (2-0) a second straight one-goal victory. On Saturday the Cavs edged Greensboro Day (N.C.), also 7-6.
In Sunday’s win over Coppell (4-1), Zach Kalas and Connor Wallenhorst each had two goals and one assist and Justin Bell posted 10 saves
Lambert (GA) 17, Greenville (S.C.) 4 (Saturday)
The Longhorns improved to 4-0 as Hayden Barnes scored three goals and Trey Arnold (RMU) collected two goals, seven groundballs and won 80% of his face-offs. Matt O’Rourk (Air Force) added two goals and two assists and Hunter Shepherd, Conrad McEvoy and Eric Overbay each scored two goals.
Mountain Vista (CO) 20, Castle View (CO) 8
Vista, No. 2 in the West, defeated conference foe Castle View in its opener as Evan Place (USAF) and Colin Munro (UNC) each had four goals. Christian Barker also tallied six points and 11 players made the scoring sheet for the Golden Eagles.
Max Tuttle (Sacred Heart) had four goals for the visiting Sabercats.
