Cherry Creek (CO) 2015 defensemen Dylan Johnson has been named the Heritage Lacrosse Boys’ Player of the Week.
Johnson helped lead the Bruins (18-1, ranked No. 20 in North America by Epoch Lacrosse) to the 5A (big school) state championship with a 13-10 win over defending champion Regis Jesuit last month. He was named an Under Amour All American and also All-State and All-Conference. Johnson will continue his lacrosse career at the University of Denver.
How does it feel winning the state title, specifically avenging last year’s loss against Regis Jesuit?
Johnson: “There really is no better feeling than winning the state title game. We lost to Regis last year in the state game and also in the two years prior. It was great to finally be on the other side and win the state title game.”
Going into the championship game what was your mindset?
Johnson: “Going into the game my mindset and the team’s mindset was to treat it like any other game. We didn’t have to do anything special we just had to play our game.”

Did your team have a specific game plan for this game knowing your opponent was tough competition?
Johnson: “Going into the game we just kept saying do your job and have faith in each of your teammates and good things will happen. There wasn’t any particular game plan, we just needed to outwork the other team and hustle.”
How does this cap off your high school career?
Johnson: “It’s a great way to end my high school career. Being a part of the team and having three consecutive state losses it was great to end on top. I couldn’t have asked for a better season with a bunch of great guys and coaching staff.”
