Lake Highland Prep (FL) 2015 defender Griff Caligiuri has been named the Heritage Lacrosse Boys’ Player of the Week.
Caligiuri collected seven ground balls and forced two turnovers Saturday to lead his host Highlanders to a 16-9 victory over Benjamin School, only days after an 11-10 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. Lake Highland Prep also defeated Benjamin School in last year’s state final, 9-2, to repeat as state champion.
What helped you achieve such a strong performance?
Caligiuri: “All of my success is due to support from my older brothers, who got me into playing lacrosse, my parents, and all my coaches throughout my career.”

What is your team’s outlook for the 2015 season?
Caligiuri: “It’s definitely state championship or bust for us. We realize that we have a lot of great talent across the board, but to play our best we have to play as a team.”
Why was this a crucial win for the Highlanders?
Caligiuri: “Not only was it a state championship rematch, but it was necessary to play well in order to get our swagger back due to playing poorly in the last two games.”
What are your personal goals for the 2015 season?
Caligiuri: “To be the best teammate I can be, and help mentor the younger players for their upcoming years.”
