Hammers Lax (VA) claimed the two high school championships last weekend at the Victory Fall Classic at the Delaware Turf Center in Frederica, DEL.

The Hammers 2020 squad (4-0) took the 20/21 Division crown with a 4-3 overtime win over Gaffer Elite while the 2022 Hammers squad claimed its division title with a 4-3 thriller over True NJ.

“We are proud of the success our Hammers teams had this past weekend at the Victory Fall Classic,” said Ricky Reyes, Hammers Lax Co-Founder and Director of Hammers Lacrosse. “As a whole, we finished 10-0-1 and brought back two championship trophies to Virginia.

“These guys have been grinding the past few months and it’s great to see their hard work pay off at a great event like the Fall Classic (run by Victory Events). They’re all a great group of young men led by some of the best coaches we have in our area and we are excited to see their continued success this upcoming year.”

Hammers Lax placed six players on the All-Tournament team: Jack Williams (Marymount commit), Bryan Reilly (Christopher Newport), Paul Vey (Marymount), Michael Olejarz (Marymount) and Jack Mattimore (Marymount) and Jack Farrell (uncommitted).

Keenan Stout, the 2022 coach, said his team excelled in all areas of play.

“With the weather shortening the games by a bit – we knew we had to build momentum early and let that carry us through each game,” he said. “So that meant coming out firing at the start of each half by both the offense and defense.

“Our midfielders did a great job initiating a lot of our offense from up top, while our attackmen had some really clutch in tight finishes all day. Defensively, some big saves by our goalies and great individual and team D kept things close. We only won each game by 1 or 2 goals all day – so both sides paying tough keeping the momentum was really important for us.

“A lot of our success comes back to our training, back home in Leesburg, VA. Our directors have developed really strong programs for training individual skills during the week while we focus on team concepts during practice on the weekends.

“Our players have all been working extremely hard since late August and all of our coaches were proud to see it all come together for them at the Victory Lax tournament.”
