Allison McDonough made 15 saves to lead a stanch defense as Vero Beach claimed its ninth straight girls’ Florida state championship today by defeating pesky Ponte Vedra, 13-6, at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

The win for the Fighting Indians (21-3) was their 128th consecutive against in-state competition.

It is the ninth consecutive title for Vero Beach, which finished the year 21-3 and has now won 128 consecutive games against Florida opponents.

Katy Pridemore led a balanced attack with three goals and two assists while Olivia Blakeman, Abby Shields and Hannah Pridemore each had two goals and an assist.

Ponte Vedra (19-4) presented the biggest challenge for Vero Beach this year among Florida teams. The Shawks took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 as Emma Dotsikas led with three goals.

But Hannah Palau scored two goals to key a 5-1 surge to end the first half and give the Indians a 6-3 lead. Ponte Vedra got as close as 9-5 in the second half but Katy Pridemore made it 10-5.
