Roppel had three goals and four assists in helping the Tigers defeat Kentucky Country Day, 18-4, in May to win its seventh state title in eight years and extend one of the nation’s most impressive state dynasties. The Tigers – who also defeated the eventual Ohio state champs, Cincincati St. Xavier – tied for sixth in the final TopLaxRecruits.com Midwest Rankings.

Roppel closed the year with 51 goals and 65 assists and was a two-time First Team All-State pick and a two-year US Lacrosse All-American. He was also named MVP of the state championship game. Roppel will attend the University of Kentucky for academics.

He answered these questions:

What was the game-plan for the state title game and how did you execute it?
Roppel:
“To be honest, our game-plan was to come out and just play our game. We didn’t change anything up which worked out in our favor.”

How did you see your role for the team this year and for the championship game?
Roppel:
“I saw my role as the quarterback of the offense. I felt that if I could stay calm and get the ball moving then the rest would fall in place.”

What were the biggest reasons for your team’s success this year?
Roppel:
“The biggest reasons our team had success were that we bought into our coaches’ game-plan and we bonded really well together as a team.”

Why has the program been so successful for so long?
Roppel:
“The reason we’ve been so successful is because of Coach (Scott) Howe. He’s hard on us but we develop into better players and better teammates. He doesn’t sugar coat anything to us and looking back on my experience, I appreciate everything he did.”
