High School: Eastport-South Manor Jr/Sr HS, NY

Graduation Year:  2017

Position:  Attack

College Choice:  Vassar College

Club Affiliations:  Team ESM; Fighting Ducks Lax

Lacrosse Honors:  2016 Brine All-American (Team Long Island), Brine All-Star, Brine National Champion and member of Team USA in the upcoming 2017 Brogden Cup.

What will you major in/study? “I’m undecided, but I love science and would like to find a major that involves physics.  Alternatively, I think I’d study economics or computer science.”

Why did you choose Vassar? “I visited the campus for the first time in 8th grade when we toured a lot of schools for my older brother and I fell in love with it.  I knew back then it was the school I wanted and it remained by #1 choice all through HS.  The campus is beautiful, small and diverse; it’s close to NYC and it’s only a few hours from home.  It has the challenging academics and competitive athletics I was looking for, a great coaching staff and a solid lacrosse team.  Vassar seems to be a perfect fit all around, and to top it off, I’ll get to continue to play lacrosse with a great group of guys in the Liberty League.  It’s a win-win for me.”

HS team’s outlook for 2017 season? “We still have a pretty strong upper class this year and a lot of young talent.  I think we will remain competitive with hard work and a sold team effort, and continue our run deep into the playoffs and hopefully make it to counties, which is where we have just fallen short in the past.”

Thank You: “First, I’d like to thank my parents and my older brother, Tyler Weiss-Trinity College ’18, for all the time, support, advice and guidance they’ve given me in helping me reach my academic and athletic goals.

“I’d like to thank my ESM teachers, especially Mrs. McCoy, and my guidance counselor, Ms. Montesanto-they are THE BEST!  I’d like to thank my trainers at Infiniti Performance Sports for getting me back on the field and helping me become a better athlete.  I’d like to thank my Varsity Coaches Kevin Huff and Brenden Hayes, and my ESM teammates.

“Finally, I’d like to thank Vassar Head Coach Marc Graham and Asst. Coaches John McCreery and Andrew Nicol for giving me the incredible opportunity to play lacrosse at the collegiate level as a Brewer.  I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.”

Other schools considered: Swarthmore, Bard, Haverford, and a few NESCAC and SUNY schools
