Drake Porter ledger:
High School: IMG Academy (FL), formerly St. Andrew’s College (Ontario)
Graduation Year: 2016
Position: Goalie
College Choice: Syracuse University
Club Affiliations: Edge Lacrosse, Newmarket Redbirds
Major lacrosse honors: All Canada All Star, OJMFLL U19 All Ontario Team
What will you major in/study? Undecided
Why did you choose school? “Syracuse is the perfect size for me, about 14,000 undergraduates, and the Syracuse campus feels very similar to that of a Canadian university, which I liked a lot. It’s relatively close to home and the academics at the school are very strong. I’ve also been dreaming of playing for the Orange since I started playing field lacrosse in grade 7 and saw John Galloway playing on TV.”
Thoughts on your HS team’s season? “This year St. Andrew’s improved a tremendous amount which was great to be a part of. Our team ended up being one of the top teams in Ontario. The high point of our season came at the end when we advanced to the OFSAA final with a win in double overtime in the semis. I’m also Looking forward to playing with and against some of the top players in North America at IMG Academy next year.”
Thank You: “I’d like to thank my coaches and advisors throughout the years: Dan Vertolli and Fergy Bellows of the Newmarket Redbirds, Adam Lukanchoff; Stu Brown, and Alan Tsang from Edge; Bill Shatz and Mike Ryder from IMG; Joe Commisso, Joel Morissey, and Fraser Cowell from SAC; with a special nod to Greg Reid who’s been my coach on Newmarket and SAC since I started playing field and has supported me throughout. I’d also like to thank my family especially my parents for supporting me and taking me on long drives to help me achieve my dream. Also a shout-out to all of my friends from Edge, the Redbirds and SAC, especially my friend Big Trout for all of the motivation since grade 6. Also, thanks to Erin Oor for always being so supportive.”
Other schools considered: Providence, Binghamton, and Loyola
