Pittsford (N.Y.) 2017 goalie Gavin Catalano has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at St. John’s University.

Club Affiliation: Blaze Lacrosse and Rochester J-Hawks Junior B Box Team.

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases: 2016: All League 2nd Team Goalie (MC-d3). 2015: D&C All-Greater Rochester (Honorable Mention-MC-3), All League 1st Team Goalie (MC-d3). 2014: Orange Crush Showcase , selected for the All-Star Game; Inside Lacrosse Upstate Boys Invitational named to the All Tournament Team and also noted as A Player Who Stood Out, by Inside Lacrosse; Section V MC-D3 Honorable Mention Goalie.

Academic honors/service: “I have spent many hours doing individual volunteer service projects, including volunteering my time with local youth lacrosse teams, helping with local food and clothing drives and ringing the Salvation Army bell during the holidays.”

What will you major in/study? Sports Management

Why did you choose the school? “I chose St. John’s for a variety of reasons. I liked the educational opportunity’s that St. Johns presents, along with the setting of the school, since I am planning to major in Sports Management. NYC is a great place to be. I really like Coaches (Jason) Miller and (Dan) Paccione and their coaching philosophy. St. John’s lacrosse is the type of program that I have been looking forward to playing with. I have always wanted to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level. I believe St. John’s will provide me with the best opportunity as a Student Athlete.”

Outlook for 2017 Season: “I am looking forward to a great season with Pittsford and competing for a championship.”

My brother Brecken for being an outstanding support, coming to my games and endless hours of shooting on me in the back yard. I would like to thank Coach Martin with Sweetlax, and my high school program. I started playing lacrosse in 3rd grade and have played with many, many teams, I would like to thank all of the coaches and teammates that have helped shape me as the goalie I have become.”
