OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Culver Academy (IN) had No. 1-ranked and defending MIAA champion McDonogh School on the defense right from the outset.

Culver’s Jackson Reid looks downfield

The Eagles jumped to a 4-0 lead and never trailed while defeating the top team in the C2C Lacrosse North America Rankings today, 12-9.

Will Clayton and Jake Stevens had hat tricks and Jackson Reid had two goals and an assist for 15th-ranked Culver (6-1), which has bounced back nicely from Sunday’s overtime loss to Haverford School. The Eagles also downed Gonzaga-DC, 13-6 on Monday.

The defense was stingy for Culver. Senior Liam Duff (Delaware commit) was relentless with his checks while causing several key turnovers.

McDonogh opened the second half with back-to-back scores to tie the game at 7. But Clayton’s goal late in the third switched the momentum back to Culver, sparking a 5-2 run.

Griffin Catlett led McDonogh (4-1) with three goals.

Culver Academy will face another ranked program from the MIAA in No. 14 St. Paul’s (5-0) on Friday.

As for McDonogh, the Eagles look to regroup quickly as they host Bullis Bulldogs come to Owings Mills on Friday.
