Austin Frederick scored his sixth goal with 10 seconds to force overtime and Trey McGee scored off the face-off to open the OT frame Tuesday as host McDonogh School (MD) defeated St. Paul’s (MD), 11-10, in a key MIAA contest.
McDonogh (13-2, 6-1), ranked No. 15 by TopLaxRecruits.com, remained in second place in the MIAA while the No. 3 Crusaders (15-2, 5-2) fell into fourth place. Two games remain on the schedule.
Hill Blaze (16 of 22 face-offs) won the overtime draw and got the ball to Robert Clark, who fed McGee for the game-winner 13 seconds into the frame.
Frederick sent the game into OT by scoring with 2:39 to go in the fourth quarter to it, 9-9 after Carter Flaig (four goals) had put the Crusaders up, 9-7. Flaig later gave his team a 10-9 lead with 1:30 left in regulation.
St. Paul’s is now one game ahead of Calvert Hall (4-3), which defeated Severn, 10-3.
