Wednesday’s girls’ results: No. 8 Marriotts Ridge tops No. 9 Mt. Hebron to reach Maryland 3A-2A semis

Jenna Kerr collected three goals and two assists while Taylor Hensh added three goals and an assist as Marriotts Ridge defeated arch-rival Mt. Hebron, 11-8, tonight to claim the Class 3A-2A South Regional championship in Maryland public girls’ lacrosse.

The Mustangs (16-1), ranked No. 8 by TopLaxRecruits.com, advance to the state semifinals to play Queen Anne’s (16-0-1) on Friday or Saturday at Annapolis High School.

Marissa Davey added three goals and Rachel Ortell made seven saves for Marriotts Ridge, which needed four overtimes to defeat the No. 9 Vikings (14-3) in the regular season. Last year, Mt. Hebron eliminated the Mustangs in the regional final.

Jamie Schwartz paced the Vikings with three goals and Jen Giles had two goals and an assist. Vikings senior goalie Madison Fisher had seven saves.

Marriotts Ridge broke open a 3-3 game with a 6-0 run late in the first half and early in the second half. The Vikes did draw within 10-8 on a goal by Tianna Wallpher with 7:42 to go. But the Marriotts Ridge defense then stiffened.
