Carly Reed had five goals and an assist as host St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes (VA) dominated the second half today in a 14-9 victory over Georgetown Visitation (DC) in a key Independent School League AA contest.
The Saints, ranked No. 2 by TopLaxRecruits.com, improved to 12-0 while the No. 6 Tigers suffered thei first loss and fell to 9-1.
The game was tied, 6-6, at halftime, when the Saints went on a quick 4-0 run to open the stanza and take control. The North Carolina-bound Reed (63 goals this year) had all but one of her goals in the second half.
“Once we got past halftime, the kids got re-directed,” said St. Stephen’s coach Kathy Jenkins. “Our goalie (junior Gussie Johns) got some big interceptions and the defense played awesome. The attack settled down and started hitting the cutters.”
Johns (USC) finished with 10 saves, and a handful of interceptions and groundballs. (She was great, she does all those other things besides make saves,” said Jenkins.
Kelly Myers had two goals and two assists for Georgetown Visitation.
Ward Melville (NY) 9, Northport (NY) 8
Ally Tilley (two goals) scored the game-winner as Ward Melville (5-1) dealth No. 14 Northport (4-1) its first loss.
Emily Columbus had three goals for Northport.
Boys
Wantagh (NY) 8, Bellevue (WA) 6
Kyle Cain and Mike Ferraro had two goals each to lead Wantagh (5-1).
Cole Johnson had two goals for the wolverines (9-2), who went 1-2 on their Long island swing, also defating Port Washington and falling to undefeated Long Beach, The defending state champions had their winnign streak of 24 games halted.
Salesianum School (DE) 12, La Costa Canyon (CA) 5
Troy Reeder scored five goals to spark the host Sals.
Sean Giampietro dished off four assists for the Sals (4-2) and Sam Fink had two goals and two assists while Jay Kelly had two goals and an assist. Ryan Kern made 10 saves.
Brunswick School (CT) 9, Taft School (CT) 8 (OT)
The 20th-ranked Bruins (4-0) tied it with seven-tenths of a second left in regulation and won it in OT.
Bronxville (N.Y.) 5, Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ) 4
Bronxville improved to 4-0 with the victory.
Tyler Konen had two goals for two time defending TOC champion Bridgewater-Raritan (1-2)
