Spotswood High School (NJ) 2015 defensive-midfielder Lisa Milburn has made a commitment to play Division II lacrosse at Georgian Court University.
Lisa Milburn ledger:
High School: Spotswood High School, NJ
Graduation Year: 2015
Position: Defensive Mid
College Choice: Georgian Court University
Club Affiliation: Tri-State All-Stars
Athletic Honors: “Unfortunately, I do not have a high school lacrosse program. However, I trained just like a high school athlete would by myself, on top of other sports. I have been a varsity soccer, basketball, and track and field athlete since freshmen year. I was varsity soccer captain junior and senior year and earned MVP. For track, I have been nominated All-Conference and Division for the past three years. In addition, I was nominated Newcomer of the Year (2012) and Most Versatile Athlete (2013 and 2014). Also, I qualified for Emerging Elite New Balance Outdoor Nationals the past three years for javelin. Furthermore, I qualified for states the past three years in all four events- javelin, 200, 400, and 400 IM. Recently, I was nominated the varsity basketball captain. I was also heavily recruited by track and field coaches from all divisions.”
Academic honors, service projects: Class President, Honor Roll and Highest Honor Roll, Student Board of Education, Student Council President, North Brunswick Travel Lacrosse volunteer coach, Community Service Club, Heroes and Cool Kids Club, Honors Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Students Against Destructive Decisions Club, Middlesex County’s Caring Award, volunteer at St. Peter’s soup kitchen, member of St. Paul’s youth group, missionary to Restore the Shore Atlantic City, West Virginia, North Carolina, Vermont, and Ohio.
What will you major in/study? Special Education/ Psychology
Why did you choose GC? “Georgian Court University offered me a very generous package that I could simply not turn down. Academically and athletically I am very confident that GCU has everything you want as a student and player.”
Outlook for 2015 HS season? “I am looking forward to participating in women’s lacrosse leagues while continuing to train individually. However, I look forward to having a very successful track season this spring. I am just short of my school’s javelin record that I hope to claim this spring.”
Thank You: “My journey of being a high school lacrosse player has been very limited because I do not have a high school team. After the summer of my sophomore year, I received numerous emails from college coaches from all divisions. However, I had to turn down many offers because as one of six kids, I simply would not be able to afford most schools. As I began to expose myself at showcases, people would tell me my chances of playing college lacrosse is highly unlikely because my lack of experience. With the faith and support of my Tri-State coaches Sue Montegari, Lexi Harmann, and Kate Hoy I never gave up and continued to pursue my passion. I can thank enough God, my family, lacrosse coaches (Sue Montegari, Lexi Harmann, Kate Hoy), soccer coach Michael Reid, and my track and field coaches for their support!”
Other schools considered: Liberty University, Quinnipiac University, Montclair State University.
