Cole Johnson and Hank Bethke each had four goals and an assist and Devlin Conway won 20 of 25 face-offs as Bellevue defeated Mercer Island, 14-11, Saturday for the Washington State Division I boys’ lacrosse championship at Seattle’s Memorial Field.
The Wolverines won their second straight state title, third in four years and 12th in school history.

The Wolverines led, 7-1, at halftime, and by as many as nine goals in the fourth period after Mercer Island (20-4) had pulled within 8-5.
Chase York led the Islanders with three goals, while Hayden Reisman, Peter Mahony and Brett Bottomly and Justin Rorem each had two goals.
Boys’ Division II
Nathan Hale 7, Garfield 6
Will Snider (two goals) tallied the game-winner with 33 seconds to play as the Raiders (17-4) won their first state crown at Memorial Stadium.
Nathan Hale held Garfield scoreless the entire second half and tied the game with 10:41 left in the fourth quarter on a goal by Ben Joers (two goals).
Jack MacIntire also scored two goals for the Raiders. Cedric Rhodes led the Bulldogs with three goals.
Girls
Lakeside 13, Lake Sammamish 7
Amanda Roper had five goals and an assist as the Lions (15-1) won their ninth WSLA state championship May 17 at Mercer Island High.
