US Lacrosse Champion All-American Showcase: Finals are set for girls’ tourney

Pride and Liberty will meet in the championship game of the 2013 Champion All-American Showcase, a US Lacrosse event Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. ET.

The girls’ championship game will be delivered live at 10 a.m. ET on ESPN3. The multi-screen sports network is available to more than 85 million households nationwide and accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members and on Apple TV.

Both teams went 2-1 in the four-team pool play event, with Pride beating Liberty 18-12 in a game that began on Sunday evening and carried over into Monday afternoon after being suspended due to lightning on Sunday night.

The consolation game will match Freedom and Spirit against each other after both teams went 1-2. That game takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Brief recaps of the games follow:

Pride 18, Liberty 12:
Carli Marsh (Pine Crest School – Fla.) had a game-high four goals and Kelly Dolan (Barrington – R.I.) and Lindsey Ronbeck (Manhasset – N.Y.) each added three for Pride. Liberty was led by Annie Ruland (Milton – Ga.) and Shelby Scanlin (Cardinal Gibbons – N.C.) with three goals each.

Spirit 17, Freedom 4:
Kelsey Murray (New Trier – Ill.) had a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists to lead Spirit to the easy win. Olivia Hompe (New Canaan – Conn.) added four goals and Rebecca Hetrick (Trinity Episcopal – Va.) also had three. Mollie Stevens (Queen Anne’s County – Md.) led Freedom with three.

Liberty 17, Freedom 8: Annie Ruland (Milton – Ga.) scored two of her team-high four goals during a 5-1 run in the first half that propelled Liberty to an eventual 17-8 win over Freedom. Madison Crutchfield (St. Paul’s – N.H.) equaled Ruland with five points (on five assists) for Liberty. She assisted on three goals in the first half to help counter Freedom’s 7-4 edge on draws. Overall, Liberty assisted on 11 of its 17 goals. Lydia Cassada (Milton – Ga.) led Freedom with two goals and one assists.

Pride 12, Spirit 11: Spirit jumped out to a 6-2 lead late into the first half, but Pride rallied for the victory. Carli Marsh (Pine Crest School – Fla.) led Pride with three points on two goals and an assist and Olivia Harpel (West Windsor Plainsboro North – N.J.) and Kelly Dolan (Barrington – R.I.) each had two goals. Shannon Fitzgerald (Newton North – Mass.) led Spirit with three goals, while Scott and Olivia Hompe (New Canaan – Conn.) each had two goals and an assist.

Liberty 13, Spirit 11:
Annie Ruland (Milton – Ga.) helped ignite the Liberty offense with five assists. Madison Crutchfield (St. Paul’s School – N.H.) scored her second of the game at the 11:36 mark to give Liberty a 10-9 lead, and then Liberty took control adding two more goals in the next 66 seconds, both on feeds from Ruland to Caroline Cummings. Shelby Scanlin (Cardinal Gibbons – N.C.) led Liberty with three goals. Spirit was led by Shannon Fitzgerald (Newton North – Mass.) with three goals and Olivia Hompe (New Canaan – Conn.) with two goals and two assists.

Freedom 14, Pride 10:
Lydia Cassada (Milton – Ga.) had three goals and one assist and Michaela Michael (Menlo – Calif.) had a hand in back-to-back goals during a 4-0 second-half run as Freedom earned its first victory with a 14-10 defeat of Pride. Rachel Ramirez (Lindenhurst – N.Y.) went the distance in goal for Freedom and made 13 saves, including nine in the first half. Lindsey Ronbeck (Manhasset – N.Y.) had three goals for Pride and Kylie Drexel (Davis – Calif.) had four assists.
