The TopLaxRecrits.com Preseason Girls’ Southern Rankings:
1. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 0-0: The Saints won the DC Independent Schools Championship and fell to Bishop Ireton in the VISAA state championship last year with a team that fielded only a few seniors. They will be a competitive force again this year with 14 seniors and over 20 Division 1 recruits.
2. Bishop Ireton (VA) 0-0: The Cardinals won the VISAA state championship last year and graduated a slew of All-Americans. They will be a little young, but with 15 D1 recruits they will again contend for state honors.
3. Milton (GA) 1-0: The Eagles started the season with a dominating 20-0 win over Cherokee (GA). They played Wheeler (GA) today.
4. St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA) 0-0: The Saints fell in the semifinals of the VISAA state championship last year and will again be a contender.
5. St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) 4-0: The Raiders have had a strong start to the season, including a 14-3 defeat of Barron Collier.
6. Lake Highland Prep (FL) 5-1: The Highlanders have a key 13-12 win over Walton (GA).
7. Walton (GA) 3-1: The Trojans have had three games determined by one goal, including wins over Florida powers Bartram Trail (13-12 in OT) and Ponte Vedra (17-16) and a 13-12 overtime loss to Lake Highland Prep.
8. Olympia (FL) 6-1: The Titans have key wins over Lake Highland Prep and West Orange.
9. Ponte Vedra (FL) 5-1: The Sharks lost a close match 17-16 to Walton (GA).
tie 10. Lake Norman (N.C.) 0-0: The Wildcats won the North Carolina state championship last year and is capable of repeating.
tie 10. Coppell (TX) 2-0:The Cowgirls started the season strong with two 14-5 wins. They play Ursuline Academy on March 3.
