Vero Beach has been dominating Florida girls’ lacrosse for years. Last week the Fighting Indians hit a major milestone by winning its 100th straight in-state game.

Vero Beach, ranked No. 9, routed Jensen Beach, 20-3, Wednesday in a District 18 game at the Citrus Bowl for the 100th. The last time the Fighting Indians lost to a Florida team was Feb. 16, 2007 against Lake Brantley, 7-6. Vero later defeated Lake Brantley for the state title.

Katy Pridemore scored five goals and Lexi Moirano added four goals and two assists while Meredith Baxter had three goals and Zan Biedenharn had three goals and two assists in the win over Jensen Beach. Vero Beach is now 7-0 after blanking John Carroll, 17-0.

The greatest test comes next for Vero Beach – No. 1 McDonogh School (Md.), the team that ended Vero’s 69-game win streak last year, 15-5. Ironically, McDonogh now has a 69-game win streak.

Vero Beach hosts the Eagles Wednesday at 7 p.m.
