San Ramon Valley (CA) 2015 midfielder Taylor Cuenin has been named the TopLaxRecruits.com Girls’ Player of The Week.
Cuenin had scored 16 goals and amassed 19 draw controls and 12 interceptions through games last week, helping the Wolves to a 5-0 start. San Ramon, now 6-0 after a victory Friday at Davis, is ranked No. 6 in the TopLaxRecruits Western Rankings.
Cuenin has committed to play at Division I UC Davis.
What do you think helped your team start out the season 5-0?
Cuenin: “I think the intense yet playful dedication we have on and off the field has really helped us come together as a coherent team rather than separate individuals. With 12 new additions to the varsity team, the need to work together has been more important than ever because we are all still getting used to one another’s playing style. In our past few games I’ve noticed an exciting transition in the offense, midfield, and defense as we are all beginning to connect with one another during games to make positive things happen. There is still plenty of room for growth on the team, so I am excited to where the rest of this season takes us.”
How do you feel that has helped your team succeed?
Cuenin: “I feel I helped my team succeed because whenever someone scores, whether it is me or a teammate, our momentum picks up and helps us push through the rest of the game. Many of my goals have been off of assists, which are just as valuable because they help the offense flow and really learn how to work even better as a unit.”
What are your personal goals for this season?
Cuenin: “One of my main focuses this season is the draw. I see this as one of the most essential aspects of the game because it is a determinant of both possession and momentum. When I’m either taking the draw or am on the circle, I really want to perfect the one-handed grab out of the air. Another goal of mine is to be a constant threat on attack and defense too. On defense I want to improve of my positioning and awareness in regards to the girl and the ball.”
