“We are a girls’ lacrosse club that educates, coaches, and inspires young women to have respect for others, show commitment to community, strengthen their sense of personal integrity, and improve their lacrosse skills.
“Our priority is to educate the whole athlete through the love of lacrosse. Specific feedback is given to players at all levels throughout the year to enable each player to do her best. Summit Lacrosse encompasses both middle school and high school teams, providing appropriate levels of competition based on the athlete’s current level of play.”
What makes your club special/ what was the inspiration for creating it?
“Originally founded by Colorado native, Devon Wills, Summit Lacrosse is now owned and directed by Zoë Smith. Summit works to increase the player’s skills and be seen by college coaches both in Colorado and across the United States. Summit takes pride in the number of players that choose to compete at the collegiate level. By pulling players from multiple non-traditional lacrosse areas, Summit builds competitive teams who forge lifelong friendships.”
Community Service/Social Justice projects: “A favorite way to contribute time and energy for our players is by volunteering at CityLax Denver. Denver City Lax is a non-profit organization that uses lacrosse combined with access to educational and enrichment activities to assist at-risk youth succeed on the field and in school. In the 2020 Winter, Summit players helped conceptualize, plan, and implement a 5-week lacrosse and academic leadership program for Denver City Lax middle school girls. The curriculum focused on identity, understanding personal strengths and weaknesses, overcoming adversity, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. Each classroom session was followed by an hour of lacrosse instruction.”
Which age groups and other programs (camps, training, etc.) does your club offer?
“Age groups: 2021-2027. We offer sports performance for all Summit players, specialized recruiting help, and college prep help for those players getting ready to head to college.”
What was the highlight of your club’s 2020 summer/fall season?
“Our 21 elite team won the Western Shootout and our 24 elite team claimed 2nd place”
