A month ago it was reported here that McDonogh School (MD) established the record for consecutive wins by a girls’ lacrosse program at 74, as acknowledge by the National Federation Record Book.
The top-ranked Eagles (15-0) have since extended their streak to 84 games. But, unofficially, they now possess the third best streak of all-time.
According to records from the Baltimore Sun, Loch Raven (MD) and Mt. Hebron (MD) each share the all-time record for consecutive wins by a girls’ program with 103. Loch Raven accomplished it from 1973-82 and then Mt. Hebron tied the mark from 2001-07.
In that time, Loch Raven also had a 104-game unbeaten streak that included one tie.
It must be noted that all national scholastic records are unofficial.
It also should be noted that third-ranked Moorestown won 82 in a row from 2000-03. The Quakers also had a 228-game win streak in New Jersey from 2000-10 for what is believed to be the longest known in-state streak of all-time. Moorestown is currently on a 35 game win streak, third in the nation to Cape Henlopen (DE) at 36.
Brooke Kuhl-McClelland – now the coach at St. Paul’s School (MD) – was the coach at Mt. Hebron when it tied the record in 2007. She did not know why her team’s mark did not enter the National Federation Record Book. She did acknowledge that McDonogh’s streak is most impressive because of the Eagles’ many out-of-state wins vs. nationally-ranked teams.
