St. Stephen”s & St. Agnes (Va.) has won 18 straight DC Independent School League championships, but Wednesday’s 14-12 title win over Georgetown Visitation was one of the most challenging.

The Saints (28-1), ranked No. 4 by TopLaxRecruits.com, held on for a 14-12 victory over No. 8 Georgetown Visitation at Bullis School in the Class AA final. SSSA had a six-goal lead at one point in the second half, but saw the Tigers pull within 13-12 late in the game.

Margaret Tucker Fogarty had five goals and junior Sophie Davidson added four goals and two assists for St. Stephen’s. Carly Reed added two goals, including the game-clincher with eight seconds to play. Tess McEvoy had three goals in a 6-1 second-half run for Georgetown Visitation.

In the ISL Class A final, Parker Garrett scored six goals as National Cathedral surprised Bullis, 15-12. The Eagles (8-9-1) had lost a 19-6 decision to the Bulldogs (15-5) in the regular season and lost in the finals the past two years.

Three days later, St. Stephen’s won its seventh straight VA Girls’ Independent State Championship by downing Collegiate School, 19-6. Besser Dyson collected five goals and eight assists and Reed had five goals and three assists in that win.
