The season kicked into gear last week as many of the Top 20 opened play for 2013.

No. 1 McDonogh – which had already started strong – won three times, including a pair over top-rated IAAM teams, 12-7 over St. Paul’s and 12-7 over No. 4 Bryn Mawr. In the Bryn Mawr victory, the Eagles (5-0) used a 7-0 run to break open a 5-4 game as Megan Whittle scored five goals and seven others scored once.

After McDonogh defeated Episcopal Acdemy (PA), 17-3 on Saturday, EA coach Amanda Vos Strache said this: “They are quite frankly one of the most impressive teams I have ever seen.”

No. 2 St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (3-0) scored several big wins, 13-7 over No. 6 Notre Dame Prep (MD) and 16-11 Sunday over No. 20 Radnor (PA) on Sunday. Against ND Prep, Olivia Mikkelsen had three goals and an assist and Carly Reed scored three times while Besser Dyson had two goals and two assists and MT Fogarty and Ellie Majure each scored twice. Reed scored eight goals and Dyson had four and four vs. Radnor (game is a scrimmage for the Raiders).

No. 3 St. Anthony’s (NY) opened Friday with a 16-6 Catholic Conference AA win over Holy Trinity as Casey Behr, Maggie Bill, Ella Bonafede and Caitlin Quinn each scored twice.

No. 8 Garden City (2-0) toppled North Shore (NY) 17-8 as Krista Dampman had six goals and three assists. Then GC routed Hewlett (NY) 18-2 as Katie Muldoon’s three goals paced a balanced attack.

No. 11 Georgetown Visitation (3-0) dominated Sidwell Friends (DC) 13-2 as Tess McEvoy had three goals and Riley Christopher had a goal and six assists.

C.M. Wright (MD) broke into the rankings at No. 19 by defeating former No. 19 Century (MD), 11-7. Katie Burgee had three goals and one assist.
