Sunday’s Texas boys’ D1 championship: St. Mark’s rallies for stunning 8-7 OT victory over Episcopal School of Dallas

Evan Chang-Tung scored with 1:20 left in overtime Sunday to lift St. Mark’s to an 8-7 come-from-behind victory Sunday over Episcopal School of Dallas in the Texas High School Lacrosse League DI State Championship game at John Clark Stadium in Plano.

Sedon-seeded St. Mark’s (18-3) rallied from a 6-1 deficit and earned its first state title in its fifth championship game appearance in seven years.

Chang-Tung also had the tying goal, scoring with 41 seconds remaining in regulation after dodging his defender from the top right and using to put it home from 10 yards out.

Richie Loftus led ESD with two goals and goalie Chris Roach (18 saves) made several key stops for the Lions in the second half and in overtime.

Michael Fletcher got St. Mark’s, within 6-3 midway through the third period and Chang-Tung’s laser made it 6-4 with 3:16 left in the quarter ESD struck with two seconds remaining in the quarter when Sam Romano scored on a roll dodge to make it 7-4.

But early in the fourth quarter Michael Fletcher made it 7-5 and Jack Fotosjek drew St. Mark’s, with 7-6 several minutes later.

Tommy Addie and Danny Koudelka also score for the Lions.

In the Division II title game, Flower Mount defeated Clear lake, 13-3

Charlie Sikes was a standout in goal for ESD with 18 saves.
