Haverford School won the Under Armour Shootout Session 3 championship

Haverford finished the tourney 7-1 overall, claiming a 10-4 win early this morning over Long Island Sting Black. Haverford also topped MadLax, 5-4, in the quarterfinals late Tuesday.

Rising junior Drew Supinski (Johns Hopkins) added a goal and an assist for Haverford School while rising senior Peter Blynn (Harvard), rising junior Corey Richards and rising sophomore Shane McBride each scored once. Rising juniors Colin Bosak and Jake Hervada were strong at the face-off X and rising senior Connor Keating led the defense while rising sophomore Alex DeMarco was a standout in goal.

“This really helps us because it’s the only tournament we do in the summer,” said Supinski. “The coaches really wanted us to try and win it this year.

“It was good because we have a lot of returning players. Last year it was tough because not many of us knew the offense. This year we knew the offense and it was good to get into motion and know what we were doing.”

Haverford started strong and then suffered an 8-4 loss to Gonzaga midway through the touyrney. After that the team re-focused.

“The first couple of games we started out well and coach (Mark) Petrone said he liked our approach,” said Supinski. “Then we didn’t approach that game with the right mindset.

“Coaches Petrone and (Travis) Loving had us in individual player meetings. And coach (Will) Scudder told us to to take what the coaches were saying to heart. They knew what to say and how to tell us. Wwe made some small changes and that helped us out a lot.”
