SHIRLEY, N.Y. – Cynthia DelCore pumped in seven goals Thursday to lead Bay Shore to a 16-8 victory over Ward Melville in the Suffolk County Class A championship game at Dowling College.

Bay Shore celebrates Suffolk County title

The victory advances the Marauders (18-1) into Sunday’s Long island championship game vs. Nassau County winner Farmingdale at Adelphi at 1 p.m.

“It feels great coming back with another County Championship,” said DelCore. “The momentum kept building up. I had the crease all game down low and I kept capitalizing on it.”

Bay Shore – ranked No. 9 by TopLaxrecruits.com – led, 9-6, at halftime and then broke it open with five consecutive goals to open the second half.

“This feels excellent,” said Bay Shore co-coach Allison Pfeffer. “We came out and played our game. We were very strong on attack with 16 goals. Getting possession was huge for us.”

Kyra Harney tallied three goals and one assist and Amanda Voges scored three goals for the Marauders, who won their second straight county title.

“We played position,” added Bay Shore co-coach John Pfeffer. “We tried to keep the ball on the midfield longer and slow the game down offensively, forcing them to come and play us. That takes time off the clock and it’s less time for them on their offensive side.

“This team has all been here before and they want to get back to where they were.”

Cynthia DelCore

DelCore is excited about Sunday’s Long Island title game.

“We feel really confident going forward,” she said. “Everyone on our team is a threat and everyone on our team is able to score. We work as a team and with everyone all together that makes us so successful.

“There is definitely a big rivalry playing Farmingdale and they are an excellent team so it is going to be a great matchup. If we give it all we got we have a great shot.”

Maddy Wollmuth scored three goals and Yuna Kur tallied two goals for Ward Melville.

“Unfortunately we got outplayed today,” said Ward Melville head coach Kerri Kilkenny. “We hung in there as much as we could, but we were a little too disjointed. Bay Shore did a great job.”
