From Press Release
LacrossePlayground.com is proud to announce its second annual event, LacrossePlayground.com Spring Classic 2013. The 2013 event will be held in Johnny Unitas Stadium on Towson University’s campus in Towson, Maryland. The remarkable venue will host three high-action high school boy’s lacrosse games.
The LacrossePlayground.com Spring Classic is a one day (March 22) affair with some of the best talent in the country participating – as top ranked Calvert Hall rounds out the group. The six teams represent the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
“Gonzaga Lacrosse is extremely excited to be a part of this wonderful event Lacrosse Playground is putting together,” says Gonzaga Head Coach Casey O’Neill. “Everything leading up to the day has been professional and on point. It really is an honor for us to be a part of something like this with all of these other amazing high school programs that we have always admired and thought the world of.”
Penn Charter Coach, Patrick McDonough, shares O’Neill’s enthusiasm, “We are very excited to be a part of such a tremendous event. It is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to play top competition at a college venue.”
Lacrosse Playground has established an immense following since its inception four years ago and looks to continue moving forward with new partnerships including Under Armour, Epoch Lacrosse, The Greene Turtle, Muscle Milk, and SportsBoard to name a few. Sponsors will be providing exclusive items that will truly make this a special experience for not only the players, but the fans as well.
“Epoch Lacrosse is proud to be part of the 2013 LPG Spring Classic,” says Epoch Lacrosse Principal James Miceli. “We are honored to be associated with six of the top teams in the country. Epoch products are designed with the elite player in mind and we have no doubt the play on the field will represent some of the best lacrosse this season. Lacrosse Playground has commissioned Epoch to design and create custom Dragonfly shafts for each of the six teams. We could not be more excited to be a part of this great event.”
Additionally, Jill Packo, Proprietor at The Greene Turtle, affirms “The Greene Turtle, slowest animal on four feet, is proud to sponsor the spring lacrosse classic, the fastest game on two feet!”
Lacrosse Playground, who has established itself as the world leader in Lacrosse Lifestyle, aims to make the Spring Classic the premier High School event of 2013.

Background of Participating Schools
The event features four teams who finished their season nationally ranked in Under Armour’s final Top 25 poll. Three teams – #2 Calvert Hall (16-2), #4 Gonzaga (20-1), and Landon (13-6) – are defending champions for the MIAA, WCAC, and IAC conferences, respectively. Gilman (12-4) fell in the MIAA Semifinals.
In 2012, Gonzaga captured its third consecutive WCAC title and finished its campaign ranked #1 by The Washington Post. In addition to winning its third straight WCAC title, the team had impressive wins over Boys’ Latin, St. Mary’s, Landon, and Georgetown Prep. Gonzaga is scheduled to faceoff with Calvert Hall at 4pm. Calvert Hall concluded a successful 2012 season by winning the MIAA championship and was ranked #1 by The Baltimore Sun.
The defending IAC champions, Landon Bears, will play perennial power, Penn Charter, from Philadelphia. Finally, Gilman and Georgetown Prep will meet in the nightcap. Gilman won an overtime contest in North Bethesda last season. Gilman is familiar with Johnny Unitas Stadium as they claimed the MIAA crown in 2011. Landon and Gilman were ranked #18 and #19, respectively, in Under Armour’s final 2012 poll.
