Proceeds from the Big12 Fall Invitational will be donated to the Big12 tournament partner the Brigance Brigade Foundation (brigancebrigade.org), whose mission is to equip, encourage and empower people living with ALS.
OJ Brigance is a retired CFL and NFL player and current Senior Advisor to Player Development for the Baltimore Ravens who was diagnosed with ALS in 2007, living today in humble fashion while overcoming many adversities using three key words: Faith, Focus and Fortitude.
“Big12 Fall Lacrosse Invitational was established to provide the nations top club lacrosse organizations a robust fall recruiting platform, providing teams opportunities to compete at the highest level and provide players exposure to NCAA programs. The fall recruiting period has become almost as important as the summer club seasons, and becomes a great table setter for next years club seasons,” said Kevin Mayer-Director Rock Lacrosse (Big12 founder). “We have teams attending from Upstate New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, and as far west as Texas which provides a great platform for NCAA programs to see the latest crop of freshman, sophomore and junior talent from well established elite club lacrosse programs.
”In addition to the lacrosse component we started Big12 last year as I was looking to utilize the growth of lacrosse to develop a fund raising outlet for ALS, my father Frank “Lynn” Mayer lost his battle with the disease in 1999. Dad spent the last 5 years of his life in a wheelchair and his support network was essential to him living with the disease in a dignified manner. Last year’s partnership with the Brigance Brigade Foundation (http://www.brigancebrigade.org/) worked out great and we were able to raise over $5,000 in a one-day event. This year we have increased the event size adding the junior class (2018) age group, and we hope to more than double our donation this year.”
