GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Amanda Turturro tallied four goals and two assists to spark Farmingdale to an 11-9 victory over Massapequa Wednesday at Adelphi University, lifting the top-seeded Dalers to their eighth straight Nassau County Class A girls’ lacrosse championship.

Farmingdale (13-3) advances to Sunday’s Long Island championship game (1 p.m.) vs. today’s Bay Shore-Ward Melville winner.
“This is a team nobody expected anything from,” said Farmingdale head coach Shari Campbell. “We are not playing perfect lacrosse. But this was a great win.”

“I don’t like the fact that we can’t get out to a quick start,” said Campbell. “It takes so much energy to play from behind and we were playing from behind until the 13 minute mark of the second half. We started getting the draws in the second half and Amanda Turturro put the dagger in the coffin with her shot.

Massapequa (7-8) held a 4-2 lead, but the Dalers fought back and went up, 10-8, with 7:07 left in the game as Turturro scored after intercepting a pass in front of the Chief’s cage. Nadine Hadnagy tallied three goals and one assist and Tara Wahl scored three goals for Farmingdale.

“This is a great feeling,” said Turturro, “At half time we talked about needing to step up in the game and all the leaders came out and fought back to regain the lead.

“With that goal I saw the girl getting ready to throw the ball so I stepped in front and grabbed the ball and took the shot. That was a momentum changer.”

Colleen Bourgal tallied two goals and two assists, Hayley Burke scored two goals and one assist and Madeline Lee scored two goals for Massapequa.

“My girls played hard,” said Massapequa head coach Megan Zimmer. “We knew it was going to be a tough game.

“A couple of turnovers killed us but overall I was happy with our intensity and hard work. Farmingdale is just a strong team, but it was a good game on both ends.”
