Jimmy Kuzma scored with 7:02 to play to lift Gonzaga (DC) to a 13-11 victory Monday night over Paul VI (VA) for its fourth straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship at the University of Maryland.
Top-seeded Gonzaga (19-2), ranked No. 3 by TopLaxRecruits.com, saw the second-seeded Panthers (18-3) rally from a four-goal deficit in the second half as Chris Camarca tied it, 10-10, with 7:32 to play.
After Tyler Golian won the ensuing faceoff for Gonzaga, Kuzma scored off a feed from Max Planning.
Alex Corboy (four goals) and Joe Fitzpatrick added insurance tallies.
WCAC Girls’ Championship
Good Counsel (MD) 16, Bishop Ireton (VA) 9
The top-seeded Falcons (17-3-1) outscored Bishop Ireton, 12-3, in the second half to claim its ninth WCAC crown in 10 years.
Junior Paige Graham had three goals and two assists and Caroline Peters (WCAC Player of the Year) and Haley Giraldi each scored three goals.
Kelly Mathews led Bishop Ireton (16-5) with three goals.
Last year Good Counsel lost to Holy Cross (MD) in the title game, a loss that snapped the Falcons’ 90-game conference winning streak.
