TOWSON, Md. – Casey Gruber collected four goals and an assist, Steven Snyder had two goals and three assists and goalie Jacob Betz posted 17 saves to lead Gerstell Academy to a 12-6 triumph over St. John’s Catholic Prep Friday for its second straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) “C” Conference championship at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The Falcons (16-3) broke open a 2-2 game with all four second-quarter goals in defeating St. John’s (19-3) in the finals for the second straight year.
Jacob Page and Nicholas Wilson each added two goals for Gerstell while Ben Higgins had a goal and an assist and Billy Bauhof scored once. Josh Tabak added two assists and Brian Lanza had one assist.
The win also avenged an 11-10 loss to the Vikings on April 24.
“It feels great,” said Snyder. “Overtime loses are kind of hard, but that loss was a reality check. It was our first in-conference loss and they are our biggest rival throughout the season. So coming (here) and beating them … it’s good.”

“It’s a great feeling,” added Gerstell coach Sean Todd. “We worked all year; this was our goal. We had some ups and downs throughout the season, and this is a great finish with another championship.”
Grier Wilson and Chris Delente each scored twice for St. John’s and Conor Snyder had a goal and an assist. Chase Taylor scored once. St. John’s won 16 of the 21 face-offs.
St. John’s 2-0-1-3 – 6
Gerstell Academy 2-4-2-2 – 12
