The matchups and times have been released for the 13th Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival, which will be held April 27 at Radnor High (PA).
The event – which has raised more than $1 million for spinal cord research and development – will feature 14 girls’ games, 13 boys’ games as well as the first college game ever held in the tourney.
The event was created to honor the spirit of former Radnor great Katie Samson, whose story is about abilities, not disabilities. Samson is a quadriplegic who suffered a spinal cord injury during a sledding accident in 2000 while a student at Middlebury College (Vt.). Through Samson’s prodigious courage and perseverance, her foundation has successfully raised funds to support spinal cord injury research, patient care, and quality of life improvements.
The college game will feature Penn and Bellarmine. The contest is the final regular season game for Penn and will be played at 5:30 p.m.
Some of the more noteworthy boys’ pairings include: La Salle (PA state runner-up in 2012) vs. Haverford School, PA (2011 national champion); Conestoga (three-time defending PA state champion) vs. Downingtown East, PA (Ches-Mont runner-up in 2012); Episcopal Academy, PA (Inter-Ac Invitational champion in 2012) vs. Lawrenceville School, NJ (Inter-Ac semifinalist in 2012); and Garnet Valley, PA (District 1 runner-up in 2012) vs. St. Augustine Prep (NJ Group A semifinalist).
Top girls’ matchups include: Strath Haven (PA state runner-up in 2012) vs. Episcopal Academy, PA (eight-time defending Inter-Ac champion); Radnor, PA (District 1 champion in 2012) vs. Notre Dame Academy, PA (Inter-Ac co-champion in 2012); and Conestoga, PA (District 1 runner-up in 2012) vs. Archbishop Carroll, PA (12-time Catholic League defending champion).
