HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Tim Rotanz erupted for six goals and seven assists, helping defending State Champion Shoreham-Wading River handle Friends Academy, 18-7, Saturday for its second straight Long Island Class C title at Hofstra University.

The Wildcats (18-1) will meet Section 2 champion Bronxville (20-2) in the state semifinals Wednesday at Marist College at 5:30 p.m. Last year SWR defeated Bronxville, 11-2, in the semis.
“We knew Friends Academy was a good team,” said Rotanz. “We wanted to come out fast and keep it going. They came out strong, but we wore them down. This feels great (to win) two years in a row and hopefully we will keep it going and finish the season strong.”
Shoreham-Wading River broke open a 1-1 game with an 8-0 run that led to a 9-2 halftime lead. Another 8-0 spurt to pen the second half sealed it.
Ryan Bray added five goals and three assists and Hunter Hayes scored four goals and one assist for the Wildcats.

“The Long Island Championship is a great title and another step towards a state championship,” said Bray, “We were able to draw to one side and the crease was always open. We worked all season for this and this feels great.”
Added SWR coach Tom Rotanz: “This team is extremely unselfish and they share the ball. No one even thinks about who is going to score or who is going to get the assist. No cares about points or even knows what they have because they just want to win. I’m really proud of them.”
Chre Teitelbaum made 11 saves, and Jon Nierenberg and Kellan Sehring scored two goals each for Friends Academy (14-3).
“You can’t turn the ball over as much as we did in the first half against a good team and expect to be in the game,” said Friends Academy coach Brian Crocco. “I’m proud of what the boys accomplished this year.
“It would have been nice to play better in this game.”
