TABERNACLE, N.J. – ICON Lacrosse scored seven unanswered goals and routed Team 91 Tri-State, 9-3, Sunday to claim the 2020 championship at the Victory Events Girls Summer Slam at Seneca High School.

“It’s fun,” Icon Lacrosse head coach Melissa Rohr said. “I’m so proud of the girls. They worked so hard and they’re so coachable. They listen to everything that we say to them. It’s nice to see everything pay off out here.”
Overall, ICON went 5-0.
“We had a good weekend,” said Rohr. “Five games is especially a lot on the kids, especially in the heat. The weather has been good. Typically, we only do showcases for our kids to play in front of college coaches, who are recruiting them. This tournament is a nice break from that. There are coaches here, but it’s championship format, so we have something that we’re competing for. It’s fun to battle and to motivate them. It was a good, hard-fought game to win the championship.”
Isabella Giner gave Team 91 Tri-State the lead in the first half. But Erin Murphy tied the game at 1-1 and Molly Hughes and Elizabeth Murphy made it 3-1. Miranda O’Mara opened the second-half scoring for ICON, before Katie Travers, Kelly Ann McGrath, and Kayla Martello scored to push the lead to 7-1.
“We preach a very team mentality,” Rohr said. “We share the ball and do everything for the team. It was tough in the first half, but it was a good battle. I told them to be patient and I felt like it would come together in the second half – and it did.”

Team 91’s Angelina Porcello scored to cut the lead to 7-2. Icon Lacrosse’s Erin Reich (South Side) then scored back-to-back goals to make it 9-2. Team 91’s Deanna Loukas scored the final goal of the game to make it 9-3.
“It’s fun playing here because I got to play against people I’ve never got to play against before,” said Reich. “It’s fun experiencing new places with this travel team.”
