HS boys’ results: No. 14 Gonzaga (DC), No. 15 Loyola Blakefield (MD) open with wins

Eight players scored at least once as Gonzaga (DC) – ranked No. 14 by TopLaxRecruits.com – defeated host St. Mary’s Annapolis (MD), 12-5, in a boys’ lacrosse opener Friday.

Gonzaga led 4-1 at halftime and extended its lead to 6-1 at the start of the first half.

Pat Myers led the balanced Purple Eagles attack with two goals and two assists while Jimmy Kuzma (awarded game Ball by his coach), Alex Corboy (one assist) and Max Planning each had two goals. Joe Fitzpatrick added a goal and two assists and Daniel O’Berry had two assists.

Tim Farrell made eight saves in goal and Jack Slater paced the defense for the defending Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champions.

Gonzaga will host No. 7 Hill Academy (Ontario) on Tuesday.

No. 15 Loyola Blakefield 15, Penn Charter 5

Tyler Llewellyn pumped in six goals and had one assist while Kevin Jackson and Devin McNamara each had hat tricks as the Dons opened with an impressive victory.

Kevin Murphy had a goal and two assists for Penn Charter (0-1).
