MELVILLE, N.Y. – Maggie Bill had four goals and had one assist as host St. Anthony’s defeated Garden City, 11-6, today in a Long Island battle of the No. 2 and No. 4 teams in the TopLaxRecruits.com Girls’ Rankings.

Isabela Mangan added three goals and two assists for the No. 4 Friars (12-1), bolted to a 9-3 halftime lead in dealing the No 2 Trojans (13-1) their first loss.

“I’m really proud of my girls,” said St. Anthony’s coach Corinne Lomangino. “Garden City is a great team.
“We stuck to our game plan and we are starting to really believe in ourselves. Our offense is finally coming into its own and we are peaking at the right time.”

St. Anthony’s started the game on a 3-0 run and ended the first half on a 3-0 run, never letting up on Garden City. Taylor Mitchell and Kerri Puckhaber both scored two goals for the Friars.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my team,” said senior Bill. “We knew we had to come out really aggressive and beat them early and that is definitely what we did today.”

Garden City dominated the draw controls grabbing 12 out of the 19 draws. But the Trojans could not get much past St. Anthony’s goalie Charlotte Campbell (eight saves).

Jackie Jahelka, Kayla Murphy, Kerry Defliese, Tara DeAngelo, Lily Schmitt and Margot McTiernan all scored once goal for Garden City.

“It was a great game,” said Garden City coach Diane Chapman. “We didn’t play as well in the first half as we did in the second half.

“You have to come out ready to play against St. Anthony’s and we didn’t do that. St. Anthony’s is a great team. They came out ready to play; they are strong and really fast at every position.”
